Blaze at Scottish Zoo

Sadly one otter and an as yet unannounced number of reptiles and insects have been killed in a fire at Five Sisters Zoo, Polbeth, West Calder. Raised by the alarm, keepers discovered the well-established blaze at 3:50 and it took 11 fire engines to begin to control the flames.

The zoo’s stock is mostly rescued animals rehomed from members of the public who can no longer care for them. The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious and inquiries are believed to be looking at the heating system.

No people were injured in the blaze.

Should anyone want to help, please visit the Five Sisters Zoo website. Everyone at SamTheVanMan passes on their thoughts to the zoo owners and staff and should we be able to help in anyway, we shall.

Due to the number of people calling and wishing to donate to help the Zoo as a result of the fire, they have set up a dedicated fund and anyone wishing to donate please simply click on the following link and select the Five Sisters Zoo Fire Fund from the dropdown menu.
